Electricity Assistance for low-income Texans
 
 
The LITE-UP TEXAS program provides discounts to qualified customers in the following months: May, June, July, August and September 2012 bills.   
 
An electric customer is qualified if the customer is currently receiving:
Medicaid and SNAP (food stamps).
 
An electric customer is qualified if the household income is at or below 125 percent of the federal poverty guidelines.  Example: family of four that would be an income of $29,438.
 
 
If you are not a participant in the above qualified programs but think you qualify based on household income you can self-enroll by
calling toll-free 1-866-454-8387.
 
The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) may help you or someone you know to help pay for home cooling or heating bills. Call the toll-free phone number at: 1-866-674-6327 or send an e-mail to: energy@ncat.org or contact your local LIHEAP office at: www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/ocs/liheap/grantees/states.html
 
Customers who do not receive SNAP or Medicaid may still be eligible, but must sign up for the program.
 
Forms are available by calling 1-866-454-8387 or at www.liteuptexas.org  or the state's 42 legal aid offices or www.Texaslawhelp.org  also have forms.
