(45 minute session)

Introducing a new option for family caregivers - toll free telephone learning

Caregiver Teleconnection:

Telephone Education for Family Caregivers

Family caregivers of older adults, people of any age with disabilities, and professionals are invited to participate in a toll free telephone education program on Monday, March 18 at either 12:00 noon or 7:00 p.m.

The topic for this 45 minute session is If I Had Only Known:  A Conversation with Experienced Family Caregivers. Linda Hines and Pat Sneller will talk about what works and some of the challenges of family caregiving. Join the conversation as a caregiver for her mother and a caregiver for her husband talk about what they recommend that other caregivers do.  Zanda Hilger, LPC, will lead a question and answer session with participants and discuss resources.

This caregiver education program, open to anyone, is provided by the Area Agency on Aging of North Central Texas and the North Central Texas Aging & Disability Resource Center.

To register online, go to caregiversos.org/caregiver-teleconnection and choose one of the two sessions scheduled.  You may also register by calling toll free 1-866-390-6491 from 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Mark your calendars for the 45 minute April sessions.  On April 18 at 12:00 noon or 7:00 p.m. will be a discussion about Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia:  Do You Have a Care Plan? These sessions will bepresented by Sara Rotenberry and Shelly Young of the Alzheimer's Association.

At 12:00 noon on April 30 pharmacist Mike Varnell will present What About All Those Medications? A Family Caregivers Guide.

Do you know a senior who could use a home-cooked meal?

Do you know a senior who could use a home-cooked meal? Let us know!

10,000 Meals in 60 Days

In celebration of National Nutrition Month, we're helping improve the nutrition of 10,000 seniors across the country. For the next two months, we'll be visiting seniors, many of whom live alone, and bringing them a nutritious, home-cooked meal. We'll also provide a friendly face and some good conversation to ensure they are able to get the nutrition they need every day.

According to the American Academy of Family Physicians, nearly one in ten seniors in America suffers from poor nutrition. This can exacerbate problems already common among seniors, including depression, improper healing, and a depressed immune system.

Our goal at Emeritus is to ensure that seniors are living "Safely Somewhere," whether they are being cared for at an Emeritus community, another senior living environment, or at home. The very cornerstone of a safe and secure environment is ensuring people are getting the proper nutrition they need to lead a fulfilling and productive life.

If you know of a senior who could use a nutritious meal and some good company, click here to contact the Emeritus community nearest you.

Free Home Visit Service for Seniors

You don't have to live with us in order for us to help. Emeritus offers a complimentary home visit to support seniors who may want to live at home as long as they can. Whether it's a listening ear, a safety check, a follow-up to hospitalization, a home-cooked meal or just an enjoyable visit, we're here to help.
