The Dallas celebration of International Women's Day is just a week away. The 11th annual event sponsored by Words of Women and International Women's Day Dallas begins Saturday, March 2, 3:30-9 at the Bath House Cultural Center, 521 East Lawther Drive, White Rock Lake, Dallas.

 

The celebration continues on March 8, 11am-5 at the White Rock Hills Library, 9150 Ferguson Road, Dallas. And following the event at the Library, we will continue at Cafe Lago, 6-9, 9219 Garland, Dallas.

 

Admission

March 2 Free. but a $10-more-if-you-can- less-if-you-can't donation is requested to offset costs.

 

March 8 Library event is Free. Donations accepted.

The Dinner at Cafe Lago is the cost of your dinner. 

Cafe Lago will donate 10% of dinner proceeds to

IWD and Words of Women.

2013 Spring Gerontological Symposium

There is still time to register for the 2013 Spring Gerontological Symposium, The Community Challenge:  Chronic to Acute Issues of Dementia, Depression, and Delirium  The Dallas Event will be March 1st at Windsor Senior Living, 7750 LBJ Freeway.  The Tyler Event which the GNI will be presenting in collaboration with the Alzheimer's Alliance of Smith County will be March 2nd at Rose Heights Church, 2120 Old Omen Rd., Tyler, TX.  5 hours of continuing education is being offered for NP's, RN's, LVN's, SW',s, LPC's, NHA's and ALA's.  Please see the attached Brochure and Exhibitor's forms for more information regarding our Distinguished Speakers and Topics.

Presenter: Roberta A. Barrow, MSW, LCSW
Roberta is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has dedicated 24 years of her 30 year career to working with seniors in a variety of settings. When her grandmother and aunt were both diagnosed with macular degeneration in the late 1990s, Roberta realized the devastating impact vision loss can have on an individual. She started her first monthly low vision support group in her hometown and has facilitated a group in the Dallas area since 2005.

Please join us for our fun, informative support group. In addition to discussing vision issues, the meetings will include resource sharing, recreational activities and outings.

Light refreshments will be served.

« When and Where

  • Tuesday, February 12, 2013 in Austin
  • Buses will leave Dallas at 5:30 A.M.  Return buses will leave Austin at 3:00 P.M.
  • You will leave your car in the parking lot of The Senior Source office, 3910 Harry Hines Blvd., Dallas, Texas 75219.
  • Senior Day will begin at 10:30 A.M. on the front steps of the State Capitol in Austin.

  • To recognize and celebrate the contributions made by older Texans to our State
  • To show that Seniors of Texas care about issues that affect them
  • To have fun and see the beautiful State Capitol of Texas

There is a $20.00 (not refundable) charge for this trip, which includes your lunch and snacks.  What a deal!!  A trip to Austin and lunch and snacks and lots of fun for only $20.00!!  Wear your walking shoes because the Capitol is large.  Spread the word about Senior Day to friends, organizations and churches.  We had 4500 seniors on the Capitol steps in 2011, and we expect more this time.
